Community Solar
Energy Conservation Works and Lower Valley Energy are partnering to develop Wyoming's first residential community solar project.
Community solar Purpose and Goals
This initiative will provide locally generated energy for LVE members through a one-megawatt project that serves hundreds of homes. The project aims to keep electricity rates stable and protect against rising power costs.
Wildlife Impact and the Development Process
The project avoids critical wildlife habitats and is designed to minimize land disturbance. A thorough environmental review with input from WYGFD, WYDOT, and DEQ is guiding the construction, which is set to start in 2025.
Impacts on Rates, Costs and Low-Income Support
All LVE members gain benefits, but participants are responsible for costs, helping to reduce dependence on costly purchased power while providing financial assistance options for low-income LVE members.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does it work?
Lower Valley Energy members will have the opportunity to join the program by purchasing shares of a nearby solar farm. Community solar members will receive a bill credit for the amount of electricity that their panel produces. The program works in the same way as having rooftop solar panels, except there's no need to own a roof, and the upfront cost is lower. Renters are encouraged to join.
How do I join the Community Solar program?
We hope to have shares available in the Summer of 2025. The size of the solar farm will limit supply, but we expect demand to exceed supply. In the meantime, sign up to receive program updates.
